Sustainability Assessment

At SOMA, our sustainability assessment is guided by two globally recognized approaches: the B Impact Assessment (BIA) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). These guidelines not only help us guide our strategy but also reinforce our dedication to fostering positive environmental and social change.

We focus on three interconnected pillars: Our work is grounded in three interconnected pillars: Environment & Sustainability · Health & Wellness · Technology for Good

As a communications company, we believe in the transformative power of storytelling to amplify the impact of purpose-driven organizations. By aligning our mission, vision, KPIs, and team goals, we ensure our work reflects our values and contributes to a better future.

The B Impact Assessment enables us to evaluate our performance with precision across five critical operational areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.

In parallel, the UN SDGs provide a comprehensive approach to identify and pursue meaningful targets, both on a personal level (for individual team members) and a collaborative level (through our projects and partnerships).

This dual-approach empowers us to set ambitious annual targets, define measurable metrics, and track progress through clear KPIs. By embracing transparency and accountability, we remain steadfast in our pursuit of continuous improvement while doing what we love—creating meaningful connections and driving positive change.

Aligning Our Sustainability Path with Global Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) represent a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all by 2030. These 17 interconnected goals provide a framework for addressing global challenges such as inequality, climate change, and sustainable development. For SOMA, a purpose-driven public relations firm, aligning with the UN SDGs is both a responsibility and an opportunity to amplify our impact through our governance, services, and community contributions.

As a public relations firm, SOMA operates at the nexus of communication and impact. Identifying the SDGs that align with our services and practices allows us to integrate sustainability into every aspect of our operations. This alignment helps us:

  • Ensure our processes and decision-making support sustainable and ethical outcomes.

  • Empower clients to communicate their purpose-driven initiatives and align with global sustainability goals.

  • Focus our resources and expertise on areas where we can drive meaningful change locally and globally.

Identifying our alignment with the SDGs provides a foundation to evaluate our current practices and define our future sustainability goals. After a thorough assessment of our current practices, SOMA has identified alignment with the following UN SDGs:

Materiality Mapping

SOMA conducted a non-financial materiality assessment to identify and prioritize the issues most significant to its stakeholders and its business. This strategic process evaluates the intersection of topics that hold high importance for stakeholders and are critical to SOMA’s success, ensuring alignment with global sustainability priorities and the unique needs of its clients, employees, and communities.

The materiality assessment serves as a roadmap for SOMA’s corporate social responsibility strategy. It highlights key sustainability topics, their relevance to stakeholders, and their impact on the organization. These topics are further aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In addition to identifying priorities, this assessment guides SOMA in tracking current practices, setting measurable targets, and identifying opportunities for growth. As a leader in sustainability-focused public relations, SOMA uses the materiality process to enhance transparency and maximize its positive impact on the environment, society, and the economy.

Looking Ahead

At SOMA, our commitment to long-lasting and impactful principles is integral to our mission of serving, communicating, and inspiring purpose-driven organizations. We are excited to continue building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for our clients, employees, and communities.
